The mid-sized GMC Canyon can tow anywhere from 4,000 to 7,700 pounds when properly equipped, while the GMC Sierra 3500HD tows more than 36,000 pounds when properly equipped. Want to find the exact towing capacity for your truck? It’s easy. Check your owner’s manual for details, or just check the information panel on the inside of your driver’s doorjamb.

GMC trucks are offered with a wide variety of towing packages and accessories that can improve the way you tow. Check out the ProGrade Trailering System. By using the in-vehicle app, you can run pre-departure checklists, monitor your trailer profile, and use hitch guidance. Also included: Trailer sway control, a hitch-view camera angle, and auto-grade braking.

GMC trucks use Tow/Haul Mode to assist in pulling heavy loads. It works by adjusting the shift patterns of the truck’s transmission so that your truck shifts less frequently. This helps improve the power and performance of your vehicle when pulling a heavy load. The Tow/Haul button is usually located on the end of the gearshift lever. Press that button, and it will activate Tow/Haul mode. (You’ll know it’s working by a dashboard indicator light.)
