GMC Yukon: The Multitasker

A full-size SUV must be ready to handle whatever the modern driver demands of it, and the GMC Yukon is as capable as they come. What's New In the 2021 Yukon?

The Yukon underwent a comprehensive redesign for 2021, and its new large-SUV platform endows it with expanded passenger space to accommodate three rows’ worth of family and friends with generous legroom and elbowroom. The Yukon has also been upgraded with the addition of an independent rear suspension, the first of its kind within GM’s three-row SUV lineup. Power comes courtesy of three robust engine options, and the AT4 trim joins the Yukon family with off-road performance perks like skid plates, all-terrain tiers, and more.

The History of the GMC Yukon

GMC introduced the Yukon in 1993 as a large, two-door SUV. In 1995, it was reimagined as the four-door Jimmy, but returned in 1998 with a V8 engine providing 255 horsepower and 33 pounds per foot of torque. It released with new trims in 1999, and sported aluminum wheels. By the year 2000, it was time for a redesign, and the next Yukon was thoroughly reshaped and re-engineered.

The Yukon saw steady improvements over the next decade, including a more powerful engine in 2007 and a six-speed transmission in 2009, plus a transition from analog features to digital media. The engine was upgraded once again in 2015, this time with the Ecotec3. GMC also added noise-reducing features to keep the cabin calm and quiet.
